Since leaving MSport at the end of last season, Loubet has not stood still. Indeed he's been busy. Today Loubet announced on his socials that he and former team Toksport would once again be competing in WRC2, in his he won back in 2019. Drivers returning to the 2nd tier after a stint in the premier class is far from unusual. In fact, much like Fourmaux's return to MSport, these moves are quite often followed by a return to the top class having taken a step back. I dare say this could be good for the Frenchman who has had lacklustre seasons at the top.
Loubet (26) will drive the latest spec Fabia RS Rally 2 for '24. Speaking about the move he said,
I’m very pleased to announce that I will drive with Škoda and Toksport this season in WRC2. It’s a category that I have some very strong memories in from 2019, so I am very happy to go back in such a strong car.
I am sure that [the Fabia RS Rally2] is the benchmark in WRC2 so we will try to fight for the championship. We know we have the weapon for it, so let’s do this and try to enjoy to the maximum."
Loubet will join Gus Greensmith and Oliver Solberg who have previously been confirmed to drive for the team. WRC2 is once again well supported this year. With lots of competition coming via the Fords, Citroens, Skodas and of course the brand new Yaris, plus some returning stars such as Chris Ingram in Monte, we look set for some exciting close fights in the coming months. And I for one can't wait!
