Craig Breen Foundation set up in memoriam of the late Hyundai driver and passionate rally fan
It was almost inconceivable at the start of the year that the rallying world would lose such a passionate and supporting character from the sport. In life Craig was an avid supporter of young talent after getting his big break with the help of Motorsport Ireland, often spending with fans, offering advice and encouragement where he could. Craig solidified his commitment in 2023 by offering support and funding to the J1000 Forestry Series in Ireland, in itself aimed at 14 to 17 years starting out.
Hyundai Motorsport, Hyundai Portugal, Hyundai Spain, Sports & You, Motorsport Ireland and the FIA have all come together to continue this support in honour of Craig for a minimum of 5 years. The work the foundation will do is in line with that of Motorsport Ireland and follows the same ethos.
Next year the foundation will offer a total prize fund of 35,000 euros, split into the following prizes:
Prizes to the value of 1,000 per round for each round of the championship
• 16,000 in support towards 2025 rally events for the top three placed drivers in the championship (5,000 to the winner and 3,000 each to the second and third placed drivers)
• A funded drive on a round of the 2024 or 2025 Spanish/Portuguese Hyundai i20 Cup with the Sports & You team for the championship winner (age dependent)
• 1 day rally tuition at John Haughland Rally School shared between first and second place drivers in the championship
• 1 day pacenote tuition from (Breen’s former co-driver) Paul Nagle for the top three placed drivers in the championship
Further details are expected to be released in due course.
